Where Ukrainian appears on official documents
A) National official language (modern documents)
- Ukraine — Ukrainian is the state language under the Constitution (Article 10).
This is why many documents issued in Ukraine are commonly in Ukrainian (sometimes alongside other languages depending on document type and period): civil registry certificates, education records, court/administrative decisions, notarial papers, company documents, etc.
B) Minority / regional protection abroad (you may encounter Ukrainian-language records)
Outside Ukraine, Ukrainian is not typically a national “official language,” but it can be protected as a minority language in parts of Europe—meaning you may encounter Ukrainian-language documents in community, education, cultural, and sometimes local administrative contexts (depending on the country). For example, Ukrainian appears among languages covered under the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages in some states.
C) Historical issuance (older records)
If you deal with older archives from the Soviet period, it’s common to see documents issued in Ukrainian and/or Russian depending on the office and year. (If you upload a scan, we’ll identify the language variety and the right formal route.)
If you’re unsure whether your authority needs paper or accepts qualified e-signature, tell us the destination office/country and we’ll recommend the safest format.
When do you need a sworn / certified Ukrainian translation?
Most often when submitting documents to:
- registry offices, courts, notaries
- universities and schools
- employers (formal HR, regulated professions)
- immigration authorities, embassies
- banks and insurers
Apostille / legalization (important)
Depending on where you submit the document, you may also need an Apostille (or legalization). If you tell us:
- the issuing country (where the document is from) and
- the destination country (where you will submit it),
we’ll advise what is typically required.
